Входить means to enter a place by walking: входить в комнату
Заходить means to make a short visit to a place by walking: зайти в комнату
While both phrases can be used to describe the act of entering a room, "войти в комнату" is more neutral and general (Он вошёл в комнату и сел на стул), whereas "зайти в комнату" can imply a short visit or a specific purpose for entering (Она зашла в комнату, чтобы взять книгу).
