American Sign Language is closest to French Sign Language. It has been proposed that ASL is a creole language of (LSF). The reason is that ASL derived from French Sign Language but quickly began diverging due to the structure and vocabulary of the English language which required modifications to the LSF signs that were introduced to the American School for the Deaf back in 1817.
