Hello! I have been signing since I was 13 years old so 20 years now! I started taking classes in -junior high and continued through college which led me to becoming an interpreter for the Deaf. I switched careers and now am a certified ASL teacher in high school and love being able to teach students how to sign. Throughout my learning I have had hearing, hard of hearing and Deaf teachers so a good mix of signing styles. The best way to learn a language is definitely to start signing with native Deaf signers in your community at local Deaf meet ups! I have enjoyed being apart of the Deaf community in my area to keep my signing skills sharp!

I learned ASLfrom the experts; members of the Dear Community. Later, I went back to college to get a degree in Interpreter Training but didn't have to take ASL classes because my skills were evaluated as being above anything I could have learned in class. That being said, I would rate myself as Advanced Intermediate. This is because I respect their skills as far superior to mine.

I am a basic signer and I use a combination of ASL and SEE.

It has been stated that it take 7 years to be fully fluent in a language. However, for the past three years I have been in an Interpreter Training Program which has tested my ASL skills to the limit. Also, I attended Skills Labs every week to advance my fluency in American Sign Language. Thus, although I do not consider myself completely fluent, I know that I will be able to help anyone trying to learn the language.
