Deaf people invented sign language.... In the beginning, how did the Deaf communicate? With the use of gestures and home signs. Signs created within the home, a certain group, etc. that had developed signs for communication. So, the first to use a more complex sign language to communicate is deaf people.
Abbe Charles Michel de L'Epee invented French Sign Language and Laurent Clerc from France came to America and joined with Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and invented American Sign Language.
