While the test format remains the same in 2021, the content of the questions and how the content is weighted will change dramatically
- The test will still contain 200 questions, with 4 hours to complete. Only 175 questions are graded, with 25 random 'control' questions.
- The 2020 test has contents split out among the 5 process groups - Initiating, Planning, Execution, Monitor & Control, and Closing. The new version will include the process groups under the "Process" domain, but also introduces two new knowledge domains; People and Business Environment
- Where the exam content used to be weighted for the process domains only in 2020, Process now makes up 50% of the exam, with People counting for 42%, and Business Environment taking the last 8%.
- Agile Methodology is more heavily weighted in the 2021 test version, with PMI stating that roughly half of the exam will focus on Agile or Hybrid methodology versus Traditional or Waterfall techniques.
- The required 35 hours for a certification exam prep class is still mandated, however students can expect to have to take a longer class, or engage in additional studying or lessons to fully cover all of the expanded exam content.
