Wanting to learn Russian..

Question

As a teacher how many hours a week would you recommend to start learning how to speak Russian, with the goal of being "mostly" fluent in 3 months? In terms of conversation?

Being mostly fluent in three months is a very ambitious goal. If you truly want to achieve it, I would reccomend enrolling in an intensive language program that offers immersion classes and homework daily. This isn't a goal that is achievable with a tutor in a few hours a week. Best of luck to you.

I like your approach, Mark and, I agree with my colleagues that it will require a lot of work and at least 4 hours a day of regular sessions. All the best, Galyna.

4 times a week - 2-3 hours with a teacher and everyday "homework" any free minute

I would like to add that if you need only more or less fluent "survival" language, it is possible, but under special difficult conditions: regular sessions with a tutor daily for about 3-4 hours minimum and a huge amount of homework in addition.
