This answer is not a short one. It has to do with what your goal is of what you need to produce. Off the bat, they both can create videos, they both can render, they have the same rendering engine. 3DSmax is for more of animations and movie work, where as Revit is more targeting still image rendering and walkthroughs. which is better is based on need. They are really not comparable.

Kelly is exactly right. Revit is for building design; as such, it's components, options, rendering engine, etc, are all geared toward that. 3DS Max and Maya are for movie quality rendering.
