Looking for a solution to simulating a step-based feedback system?

I am looking to simulate an on-line trading algorithm. I am looking for something similar to Simulink, or maybe even Labview, in the sense that I can define "blackboxes" of algorithms, connect them, and then press "play" and see what happens to such a system. It does not have to be graphic, a solution for Java or Python is preferable. Also, a solution for R would be great. Can you recommend such packages / technologies?

I would suggest you to use quantopian or other online platform to develop your trading algorithm first, because for most of the cases. What you need is data, and data with less noise. Starting with external platform, then slowly migrate into Python or Java.
