I'm surprised it's been over 2-weeks since you asked this question and no answers.
As VP of Education for the PMI South Florida Chapter, I was responsible for the certification training and continuing education of our members.
Here is what I recommend, step by step:
- Read the PMBOK. At this first step, the PMBOK will seem like a cure for insomnia and can be very confusing. Simply get a grasp of how it is structured. Tools, methods, knowledge areas and so on.
- Buy a reputable 3rd-party prep kit. It should have a study book and at least 200 practice questions. Make sure it is CURRENT meaning relevant to the PMBOK version to which you will be taking the exam. Also, make sure reviews of the material of from actual exam takers who say the material was a big help to them.
- Attend a 2 or 3-day study prep course. Call your local PMI chapter for recommendations. Some chapters offer this training directly, some refer you to 3rd-parties they trust.
- Schedule your exam -- but don't let it be longer than 2 to 3 weeks out or YOU WILL FORGET WHAT YOU LEARNED!
- On 3x5 index cards, write the questions you've had the most problems with. On the back of each, write the answer. Carry these cards with you everywhere you go. Pull them out and review them until you know them solid.
- If you still have time before your exam date, return the the random practice questions from step 2 and the PMBOK to stay fresh.
Best of luck!
