Full adjectives in the accusative feminine have become adverbs: в плотную (позицию) - вплотную, в пустую (голову) - впустую, в ручную (работу) - вручную, за частую (меру) - зачастую. Aссusative case is regularly used after prepositions в/на/за - смотреть в окно/на книгу, зайти за аптеку. Feminine forms of adjectives are used because these adverbs came from combinations of full adjectives with feminine nouns: в плотную позицию (fem.)= вплотную.
The adverb вправду comes from a combination of the preposition в and the accusative case of the feminine noun правда: смотреть/верить в правду (fem.) - вправду.
