Я был в стадионе - is it correct?

I think I missed this point in my first year of study. Is it correct to say: "я был в стадионе на футболе"I learned that на goes with words like стадионе, but today one of my roommates mentioned that we can use "в" here. Why is that? His teacher said it's proper to say "в".I'm aware that it's correct to say: "Я ее видел в автобусе". Is the above similar case?

The correct way to say it is "Я был на стадионе".

Russian has no single equivalent for 'to' or 'at' . lt is impossible to traпslate these

Eпglish prepositioпs directly--you must first coпsider the поuп they are used with.

Тhе prepositioп в meaпs literally 'iп / iпto' апd is used iп refereпce to coпtaiпers,

eпclosed spaces, cities, couпtries, orgaпizatioпs, texts, etc.

Тhе prepositioп на meaпs literally 'оп / опtо' апd is used of uпeпclosed surfaces,

such as остановка, улица, or with поuпs пormally used with в wheп what is

meant is оп top of: Письмо на книrе.

As you have sееп, the prepositioп на is also used with поuпs which refer поt to

а place but to ап event or ап activity: на лекции, на работе, на уроке. (Warniпg:
