Я не хочу у вас жить - why "у вас"?
In the phrase "Я не хочу у вас жить, когда я буду в Москве" I would expect an instrumental case, for example with preposition `c`, but why actually preposition `y` is used?

"у вас жить" means - live in your house/ appartment (be a houseguest)
жить с вами - to share a dwelling (have equal positions)

The meaning "у вас" is determined by one of the meanings of the preposition "у": "stay with somebody", "stay at someone's house/ home" combined with Genitive case: "Я живу у бабушки"; "Летом мы будем жить у друзей в деревне". It has a meaning relatively restricted time staying with someone, mostly temporarily. A to the use of the preposition "c", it has a similar meaning but means "togetherness" usually with a shade of meaning "living with somebody [more or less] permanently", for example, "Девочка жила с бабушкой"; "Ты ещё живёшь с родителями?". This preposition requires an Instrumental case.03/04/20
