Finding Minimum Point

Two poles 20 and 28 feet high respectively are 30 feet away. It must be fastened with cables fixed at a single point, from the ground to the ends of the points. Where are the cables to be fixed so that the amount of cable (x + y) to be used is minimum?

This problem is not stated clearly.  Are the poles 30' apart?  Is the cable to be fastened at the top of each pole and then to the ground?  What is x and what is y?

Poles are 30 feet apart and yes, the cables are to be fastened at the top of each pole and then to the ground. x+y in that case is the cord. X is the left side of the cord and y is the right side of the cord. As the cord is anchored to the ground it forms 2 right triangles and I'm labeling the hypotenuse of both.
