Combustion is the reaction of the compound with oxygen to produce carbon dioxide and water. In order to answer questions about heat, enthalpy, etc., one must write the balanced equation first.
CH4 + 2O2 ===> CO2 + 2H2O balanced equation
How much heat is produced?
The problem states that 802.3 kJ of heat is produced. So that presumably is the answer.
Classify the type and endo/exothermic?
Of course, the type of reaction is COMBUSTION, and since heat (energy) is produced/liberated, it is EXOTHERMIC
What does enthalpy indicate?
What a silly question. Enthalpy is heat at constant pressure.
The balanced equation showing energy as a reactant/product:
CH4 + 2O2 ===> CO2 + H2O + heat energy
