Find the equations of the lines through the following pairs of points, in slope intercept form.

 

I have tried the problem several times and keep getting it wrong..

m = 5-3/-1-6 = 2/-7

 

y=2/-7X+b

3= 2/-7(6)+b

3= -12/7+b

b= 3 12/7

 

y=2/-7+ 3 12/7

 

Where am I going wrong?

3 = -12/7+ b

 

Here you must add 12/7 to isolate b

 

3+12/7=b

 

33/7 = b

your final answer would be y= -2/7x + 33/7

You are not adding the fractions correctly when finding the intercept.

 

B = 3 + 12/7 = 3/1 + 12/7 = 21/7 + 12/7 = 33/7

 

y = (-2/7)X + 33/7
