solve -2x+1>7

Subtract 1 from both sides

 

-2x > 6

 

Divide both sides by -2.  The trick is that when you multiply or divide an inequality by a negative number, you have to reverse the inequality, so the "greater than" (>) becomes a "less than" (<).
