This particular problem is not solved using the FOIL method (unless you typed it incorrectly). As written, you wold solve the problem by distributing the 5X. For example, A(X + Y) = AX + AY. The A was distributed (or multiplied) to both the X and the Y.
Here is an example of the FOIL method (used in multiplying 2 binomials): (X + A)(Y + B) This problem is solved by multiplying the FIRST terms together XY, the OUTER terms BX, the INNER terms AY, and the LAST terms AB. You put all these parts together remembering to watch your signs and simplify when possible and you get: XY + BX + AY + AB.
