He jumped 74 times and after that he jumped 6 fewer times in each try.

In the first try, he will jump 74-6=68 times

in the second try, 68-6=62 times

in the third try, 62-6=56 times

in the fourth try, 56-6=50 times

in the fifth, 50-6=44 times

 

Algebraically, this can be expressed by

x = 74 - 6n where n is the number of try and x is the number of rope jumps in a try

for the fifth try

x = 74 - 6*5

= 44
