Hi Ida,
The simplest way would to practice multiplying and combining fractions.
Looking at your problem, you should know immediately that the LCM would be 6 and know to multiply (1/2) by (3/3) and to multiply (2/3) by (2/2). It takes practice, but then that would be the simplest way.
12 - (3 / 6 + 4 / 6)
12 - (7 / 6)
Here our LCM would be 6, since 12 is actually 12 / 1, so we need to multiply it by (6/6), which gives us:
72 / 6 - 7 / 6
65 / 6
