Need help with a word problem.

Question

Each week, Joey gets paid $10 plus $2 for each chore he does. His sister Julie gets paid $5 plus $3 per chore. If Joey and Julie each do 5 chores, how much do they get paid individually? How much do their parents pay altogether?

Let n denote the number of chores done per week;

For Joey, Let y denote total amount earned for the week

Therefore y = $10 +$2*n

 

For Julie, Let x denote the total money earned for the week;

Therefore  X=$5+$3*n

Let z denote total money paid by their parents, 

therefore z=y+x

 

for 5 chores, n=5

Hence Joey's income, y=$10+$2*5

                                y =$10+$10

                                y =$20

Julie's income, x=$5+$3*5

                      x=$5+$15

                      x=$20

total payment made by their parents,z = y+x

                                                     z =$20+$20

                                                      z=$40
