jack travels to school in the morning at an average speed of 32 mph. on his way home he average 48 mph. What is the distance between his home and school if his total travel time is hr and 15 mins

Travels faster going home from school than going to school. Sounds like me! :-)

The total travel time is 1.25 hours. I converted to hours to ensure consistent units. You have to be unit-correct to get the right answer.

 

So if you let t= amount of time it takes to get to school, then

 

32t = 48 (1.25-t)

32t = 60 - 48t

80t = 60

t = 0.75 hour, or 45 minutes

 

So 45 minutes to get to school, and 30 minutes home.
