Teaching Music Production, DJIng & Theory For The Past 7 Years
Top 10 things that I would recommend as a music producer to upcoming producers would be :
- Don't compare yourself to other producers EVER. I've noticed this a lot that in the process of becoming someone else you always forget about your own artistic persona and that's what you need to make you stand out more.
- Sound Designing and Mixing Mastering is not the only thing in EMP, you cannot be a GREAT audio engineer until and unless you haven't spent A LOT of time practising that on your own songs. Similarly sound designing is beneficial but hold on there are royalty free preset packs that can be reverse engineered (try that)
- Music theory can be boring but all I can say is that it will help you so very much without you even knowing it.
- Referencing your tracks if you struggle to make them sound big sonically. Try to get as close as you can when you are mixing.
- Help your peers every time you get a chance, a lot of the industry reach out to each other for help, if you can fix an issue for someone trust me that is one real connection that you made.
- STOP SWITCHING DAW's without any reason just because some artist that you follow uses a different DAW doesn't mean you would get better results by switching.
- Listen to genres that you have never tried before there's nothing in music to hate, you can always pick something from a song and either resample it or use it as an inspiration in your own songs.
- This one can be a little advance. Start making your own sample packs if possible, get that uniqueness in your music. Anything that sticks out in your music can be an ear candy from the listener's point of view.
- Start working on your SOCIAL MEDIA right now. These days it's a lot easier to get booked if you legit followers that's what booking agents and managers need these days. No one is going to come to your show if they don't know you.
- There are no shortcuts in this industry only the best gets the piece of the pie. The only way to get there is by following four things i.e Practice, Consistency, Discipline & Positive attitude.
There's obviously a lot more that I've learned overtime but these are the most important things that you should think of while starting your music production journey.
