Draw the 6" by 4" original rectangle.  Draw its similar smaller triangle, which has height of 5".  If they're similar, the original must have been multiplied by 5/6 to produce the resulting height 5".  So the resulting width must be (5/6)(4) inches, which is 10/3 inches, i.e. 3 and one third inches.
