The directions on a bottle of bleach say to use 3/4 cup for every 1 gallon of water. How many cups of bleach are needed to make a 12 gallon mixture? Round your answer to the nearest cup of bleach.

If it takes 3/4 cup of bleach for every gallon of water,

 

3/4 x 12 would be 12/4 or 3 cups of bleach, except that you would then have the volume of the bleach (3 cups) plus the volume of the water (3 gallons).  So check to make sure that 3 cups is less than half a gallon.  If so, and I think it is, the answer would be the same because the question lets you round off your answer to the nearest cup.
