Here's one way to approach a problem like this...

 

if 3/4 inch equals 60 miles then we just have to compare 3/4 inch to 2 inches, and apply that ratio to 60 miles:

 

3/4 : 2 = 0.75 : 2 = 75 / 200 which reduces to 5/8 

 

So 5  = 60  (x is our unknown distance)

     8      x

 

x = 60 (8 / 5) = 96 miles.
