Jason, Let x=Larry's home runs and let 2x+4=Andre's home runs. Together they hit 10 home runs. Set the equation: x+2x+4=10; Now combine like terms: 3x+4=10; Subtract 4 from both sides of equation; 3x=6; Divide both sides of the equation by 3; so, x=2 which are Larry's home runs: 2(2)+4=8; these are Andre's home runs. Check: 2+2(2)+4=10. 10=10.
