how do you answer "como celebrabas tu cumpleanos de nino?"

I really need help answering this question for a speaking exam.

Your teacher wants you to practice the imperfect tense in Spanish which describes a description, action, relationship, time, ( weather) in the past. Not the close past which would be the preterite.

You will tend to use siempre, nunca, aveces, todos los días, todos los años... De vez en cuando, A menudo, cada semana, con frecuencia, generalmente- Phrases that indicate repetitive, vague non-specific time frames. These signal the imperfect tense. Your grandparents would use this tense telling how things used to be, for example.

Cuando yo era niño, yo celebraba mi cumpleaños con mi familia. Mi madre invitaba a mis abuelos, tíos y primos para celebrar mi cumpleaños. Siempre me preparaba mi comida favorita para la cena y comíamos un pastel de helado. Me gustaba el chocolate. Siempre me cantaban el "Happy Birthday" y luego abría unos regalos. A veces teníamos una piñata y nos divertíamos mucho.

The imperfect tense describes what you used to do....

-ar verbs- drop the ar ending of the infinitive and add aba, abas, aba, ábamos, abais, aban.

er and ir verbs- drop endings and add ía, ías, ía, íamos, íais, ían

There are 3 irregulars-

ser- I used to be ( era, eras, era, éramos, erais, eran)

Ir-I used to go ( iba, ibas, iba, íbamos, ibais iban)

Ver- I used to see ( veía, veías, veía, veíamos, veíais, veían)

Siempre hablábamos por teléfono con mis abuelos en Colombia los domingos.

Yo vivía en Madrid de niño. Cada verano, íbamos a la playa y nadábamos en el mar.

De niño, celebraba mi cumpleaños en mi casa con mi familia y primos y con un pastel hecho por mi mamá.

 

How did you used to celebrate your birthday? It could be at a park, your home, or at a pizza place.
Personally, I used to celebrate it at home with my family, cousins, and a home made cake.
