Hi, my name is Sean! I recently graduated from the University of Chicago with a BA in Economics and BS in Data Science. Through these degree programs, I gained a robust understanding of micro and macroeconomics, machine learning, programming, statistics, and calculus. I also have RCM Grade 9 certification for piano, so I can teach music as well!
In the past, I tutored 3 students to help them prepare for the SAT (reading, writing, algebra, geometry, trigonometry), successfully improving their scores by 200 points. Throughout my 4 years in college, I also taught beginner and intermediate piano to 5 different students as part of a volunteering club. All of my teaching experience has been one-on-one, with students between the ages of 5 and 18. As a teacher, I focus on building a foundational understanding of the topic in my students. Whether the topic is music theory or algebra, I first explain the basic underlying principles, then add complexity according to the student’s age and level of understanding. Using this approach, I’m able to teach difficult concepts in ways that students can internalize and intuitively understand.
I’m a great communicator with both students and guardians, so expect consistent updates and organization. In my teaching experience, I’ve found that I’m great at working with kids, and I find it very rewarding to see my students improve!
