What size and type of sewing machine needle is used for sewing lightweight cotton fabrics?

Knowing the right size and type of sewing machine needle to use with different kinds of fabric will make sewing much easier. Using the wrong needle can cause the thread to break, bunch and knot up, skip stitches or even punch holes into the fabric!

Light wt. cotton, you want a 75/11. It is a finer needle. I use this for all my sewing and quilt piecing for cottons. when I go to heavier fabrics, I increase my needle size.
