The answer you are looking for depends on:
- What version of Project you are using
- How complex your schedule is
- Is the schedule using a shared resource pool?
- Are there Links to other MS Project files?
- Is it an integrated master plan with multiple subprojects inserted?
- (plus others...)
The only action that I can suggest you try is the following, as the old Project MVP site (http://project.mvps.org/) doesn't appear to be accessible, which is where there used to be many suggestions for repairing .mpp files.
Try the following (might or might not work):
- Try opening a new MS Project file.
- Then, depending on which version of MS Project you are using, go to the tab that has the (Insert) Subproject.
- Try inserting the corrupted project file into the new project file as a subproject.
- If this works, and all of the tasks look like they are intact, then you can create another new project file and copy all of the task lines from the inserted project into the new file and save it.
- You might need to review the new incarnation of your file for missing information, e.g., resources in the resource sheet, project information on the Project tab, etc.
I have had files that I was able to completely restore all of the task lines for. And others that this did not work at all for.
Good luck!
