Dialect is probably not the right word. Spanish and Italian are based on common Latin of the day.
Is Italian a dialect of Spanish or Portuguese?

I’m a native speaker of Portuguese from Brazil.
Both Portuguese, Italian and Spanish are Latin languages. This means that they are derived from the same common language, Vulgar Latin, which was essentially spoken by all corners under the rule of the Roman Empire.
