Camões (1524-1580) initiated the transition between the Archaic and Modern times of the Portuguese language. However, it seems that the morphology, syntax, and vocabulary of the XVIII century and early XIX century characterized a time of transition that can be called the Contemporary Portuguese. So, the Portuguese spoken like Camões had less vocabulary and less grammatical rules than today.
