Conversation_Writing_Proofreading: Native Portuguese Speaker
It's quite noticeable the similarities between French and Portuguese because they are both languages of Latin origin. Mostly writing, from a Portuguese speaker perspective, it's possible to infer about the meaning of many words that have similar spelling; the same thing that happens with Italian and Spanish when compared to Portuguese. However, speaking in French usually doesn't sound as similar as writing. I would consider Spanish, Italian and then French - in that order - the most similar languages to Portuguese, as far as I know.
