From my experience of fabricating the splints and being chair side with dr. I personally believe they do usually work if the patient is complient with wearing the appliance. Opening the VDO for extended periods of time can help with tension relief and creating muscle memory to an opened VDO. Thus reducing the natural instant to clench or grind. Hope this helps!
Does the Michigan splint truly treat TMJD or is it only a temporary fix? If the latter, why would it be the first appliance to be recommended?
