Would you recommend 3D modeling with a Wacom tablet in Maya?

Vehemently yes! I've used Wacom tablets for years, and now I use something similar to a Cintiq day in & out. Having pressure sensitivity is a huge benefit, but it can take some getting used to. These days, I only use a mouse when I need to.

Yes! The wear and tear on your wrist and index finger when using a mouse is reason enough to switch from using a mouse to a tablet. The tablet's pressure sensitivity is a very welcome bonus as well.

I would recommend this even though I am not a tutor because I have used 3D modeling with a Wacom tablet before05/10/19
