The application process is your opportunity to give dental schools a great idea about who you are as a future provider and also as a well-rounded individual. While there is nothing wrong with going abroad for leisurely reasons, a way to strengthen the experience as a prospective student would be to find programs that go abroad for clinical care. Even if it isn't related to dentistry, there are plenty of companies and teams that travel to third world countries to provide medical screenings or services, dental emergency treatment, oral cancer screenings and more.
The ADA has a wonderful list of calendar scheduled trips with the contact information of anyone leading them as a resource for trips related to dentistry.
