No, Flourides in toothpaste are not harmful. Actually flouride is anti cariogenic. Flouride forms flouroapatite crystals which are resistant to bacterial acid attack. But high concentration of flouride can cause flourosis. It occurs when concentration of flouride is more than 1 ppm per day leading to dental and skeletal flourosis. In dental flourosis there is mottling of enamel. In skeletal flourosis there is joint defects including jenu vulgam. So high concentration of flouride should be avoided.
