Those type of questions are very personal. I find it more difficult to learn languages that are more similar to my native language (Portuguese). For me learning Spanish is more difficult than English (nowadays I am fluent in english and I can half understand Spanish if I read). As for some other people they say it is easier to learn a language that is more similar to their native language.
However, French is not that close to Portuguese, so, at the end, might not have this "similarity effect". The phonetics and grammar are very different (and the numbers, oh the numbers...).
None of my friends that learned French mentioned it being easier, neither more difficult to do so because of knowing Portuguese, the same goes for some native French speaker friends when learning Portuguese.
So, no, it is not easier.
