Licensed Cosmetologist, Brand Educator
I see this is quite an old question and the fact that it has been some time, you may or may not have gotten the information you need.
First it depends on the school. If it's private, you may be able to get a loan for the cost of tuition, tools, and books. Some schools are accredited by NAACAS which is an agency that works with schools accreditation and often you can get federal loans and grants. It's beenawhile, and it may have changed, but that's how it was when I went to school.
Either way, the school should have a finance department who should be able to help you with this. Then you can go from there and see if that's the direction you want to go.
Regardless, do your research. Look at their graduation rate and passing license rate as well as their student retention. Those numbers are big indicators of how well the school is.
In terms of price, becoming a licensed Cosmetologist is not cheap, nevermind the cost post-graduatuon and license. You can make a good living if you get the right education not just at school, but after you become a licensed professional. You'll never stop learning.
I hope this brings some insight to you or anyone who comes across this question.
Best of luck.
