Some historians say the word Brasil origin was chosen because of a tree called pau-brasil ( pau means woodstick and pau brasil, amber wood) which was very abundamt in the land the Portuguese settlers arrived. This tree has a reddish color trunk and was used to dye cotton, wool, and it became the reason for a lot of commerce of this wood, between the Portuguese and the Arabs. The word " brasa" means amber.
Does the word "Brasil" mean anything in Portuguese? Is it linked to “Braso” or any other word and what does it mean?
