"Of" means to multiply.

 

(1/4)(2/3) = 2/12 = 1/6 of the candy bar you have left. How generous!

1 - 1/3 = 2/3.  This is what is left after the first giveaway.

 

2/3 times 3/4 = 6/12 or half of the original bar taken by your friend. So you have lost 1/2 + 1/3, which is 3/6 + 2/6, which is 5/6.  You have 1/6 left.
