Horizontal velocity

Question

A player is in front of a goal post 42 metres out. Flight time is 3.2 seconds, the ball goes through posts and lands 48mteres from inital kick. How do you calculate horizontal velocity?

The horizontal speed v_x is constant, so just divide the total horizontal distance traveled by the time of flight.

 

v_x = (48 m)/(3.2 s) = 15 m/s
