Learning to read, write, and add with Michelle
So figurative language is language that uses words or phrases with a meaning that is different than there literal meaning. Here are some examples:
She was as hungry as a horse. (Idiom) Doesn't actually mean you'll eat as much as a horse, but rather you are very hungry.
Her lips were as red as an apple. (Simile) Similes use "like" or "as" to make comparisons.
You are what you eat. (Metaphor) You aren't actually what you eat but creates an image of the object.
The tree hugged me. (Personification) Human characteristics given to an inanimate object.
