Mrs. HIATT gave her class 12 minutes to read. Carrie read 5 1/2 pages in that time. At what rate, in pages per hour, did Carrie read?

5½ pages per (1/5 hour) = 5 times 5½ pages per hour =27½ pages/hour;

note that I changed 12 minutes to one fifth of an hour, and to divide by the fraction 1/5,

I did multiplication by its reciprocal, five.
