What numbers are between 3&3

Question

So my Jump math gr.6, is asking me to find the median (I know how to do) so the list of numbers to find the median & the numbers are: 2 3 3 8, so its an even number so im supposed to find the number right between them but there is no number between 3 & 3 right?

The median is the middle number when listed from lowest to highest. If there are an even number of numbers, so no one middle number, take the average of the two middle numbers.

 

For example...

 

2, 7, 9, 11, 17, 156

 

The median is (9 + 11)/2 = 10.

 

You have two 3s. (3 + 3)/2 = 3

The two middle numbers are 3, the median is just simply 3.

The way to find the number right between any two numbers is to add them up and then divide by 2. For example, the number right between 8 and 12 is (8+12)/2, which comes out to 10.

 

You can do that here: (3+3)/2 comes out to 3, which is the number you want.
