g(x )= 4x + 2
g(3) = 4(3) + 2
g(3) = 12 + 2
g(3) = 14
Now substitute g(3) = 14 for g(3) in f(g(3))
f(x) = 3x - 1
f(g(3)) means f(14)
f(14) = 3(14) - 1
= 42 - 1
= 41
so f(g(3)) = 41
