Question

A boy pulls a 250 g rope with 15 N of force to the right. A girl pulls the rope with 13 N of force to the left. Draw a FBD. What is the acceleration of the rope

F = net force, right direction positive

 

Newton's 2nd law:

 

a = F/m = [(15 - 13) N] / (0.250 kg) = 8 m/s² [to the right]
