Is the problem to round 60.187 inches to the nearest tenth?
The first decimal place is the tenths, the second is hundredths, the third is thousandths, etc. So you want to round to one decimal place, either 60.1 or 60.2. The rule is that if the next decimal place is less than 5, round down to the lower tenth. If the next decimal place is 5 or more, round up to the next tenth. In this case, the second decimal place is 8, so we round up to 60.2 inches.
If you look at the number line below, you can see that 60.187 (shown with the *) is much closer to 60.2 than it is to 60.1, so 60.2 is the "nearest" tenth to 60.187 which is why we round it up to 60.2.
60.187
60.1 60.12 60.14 60.16 60.18 60.2

60.11 60.13 60.15 60.17 60.19
