      483 + 10 = ________                    [10 is one ten(s)]

       483 + 10 = 493         [483 has 8 tens, which is one tens less than 483 has]

 

 

3692 is one thousands greater than __________

    3692 - 1000 = _________                 [1000 is one thousand{s}]

      3692 - 1000 = 2692     [3692 has 3 thousands, which is one more than 2692 has]

 

 

Now, try these:

 

♦ 483 is two tens less than _____________. [note: watch out for “carry”, which will make zero tens and another hundred{s}]

♦ 3692 is two thousands greater than __________.

3692 > 2692.

 

I think this is what they want.  Stupid stuff, I believe--probably the result of Common Core infestation into the school.
