Hi Tiffany,
When I was in school, this is the way I would solve this kind of problem:
- Take a piece of note paper, or open your computer to some kind of notepad or word processing program.
- Write the topic, "What factors ... to America" at the top of the page.
- Read the first two chapters of the book, concentrating especially on the factors that prompted the migration of English men & women. There will be lots of other information -- for example, migration of other nationalities such as Irish, French, Italian, etc. -- so focus on the items relevant to your topic.
- As you read passages relevant to your topic, write a short summary sentence or two on your note paper or computer.
- Read ... take note ... read more ... take more notes ... and soon you will be done.
- If you need to write an essay, just "glue" the notes together with some transition words to make the essay flow together.
Hope this helps you. Good luck!
